Girls Night In and Pink Ribbon DayMany of us have been touched in some way by womens cancer, whether personally, a family member or a friend. We have been provided with some valuable information regarding womens health, it's worth educating yourself, so take a moment to read it now. Thanks to the work done by the Cancer Council we fortunately hear a lot of stories of survival these days. In 2006 there were 2 great events that Huggies mums became involved in to help the Cancer Council in their fight against cancers affecting women.
It's up to each of us to make a difference! Girls Night In 2006
You should be very proud to know that your contributions helped make Girls Night In a huge success this year as we are well on our way towards our $1.6 million goal. It is through the dedication and effort of each and every host that we have been able to achieve so much.
Your contribution will enable us to continue funding vital research into the causes of cancer and into new and improved treatments. In the past five years The Cancer Council has allocated more than $8 million on research projects specifically looking into women’s cancers. We also provide essential support services such as The Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20) and education programs on prevention and detection in an effort to lessen the impact of women’s cancers on Australian communities. Girls Night In 2007 Getting the girls together for a girls’ night has long been a female institution. As you would know a girls’ night is a celebration, a time to share your feelings and dreams, a time to support and educate each other and most of all a time to escape from the everyday pressures of life.
That’s what is so great about the Cancer Council’s Girls Night In. This event is your opportunity to gather your female friends, family, colleagues and neighbours for a night of fun that also helps raise money to conduct research and provide support for breast and gynaecological cancers.
The concept is simple – just invite your girl friends around for a night in during October (or close to it) and ask them to donate to The Cancer Council the equivalent of what they would usually spend on a night out to support women’s cancers. It’s that easy!
Visit the Girls Night In website for more information and to register as a host for the 2007 event. Or call the Cancer Council national events hotline on 1300 65 65 85.
Pink Ribbon Day Thank you for helping to change the lives of those affected by breast cancer A huge thank you to all those people who supported The Cancer Council in the fight against breast cancer by getting involved with Pink Ribbon Day 2006. In NSW alone we have banked over $760,000 to date (December 2006) – a fantastic achievement and a record breaking figure! A special thanks to the huge number of supporters who sold ribbons and to all of those people that bought a ribbon. Your contribution will help make a real impact on the lives of thousands of women in NSW who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Over the last 5 years The Cancer Council NSW has invested $4.5 million into breast cancer research projects and we are currently funding 38 clinical trials nurses at hospitals across NSW. As well as investing in research we believe that to offer women complete support it is crucial to provide education programs to lessen women's risk and support services to help them through their diagnosis, treatment and recovery. So thank you to everyone who supported Pink Ribbon Day this year -you have helped to make this possible. We are already planning a bigger and better Pink Ribbon Day for October 22nd 2007 – if you would like to be a part of it, please visit our website and register now.
Your donation will help The Cancer Council Australia to:
- Fund breast cancer research.
- Help those affected by breast cancer right now, by offering support services to help them and their family through their cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Educate women to be 'breast aware'.
Importantly, funds are spent where they are raised, directly supporting the efforts and needs of the community. Visit the Pink Ribbon Day website for more information.
