Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal Doorknock19 & 20 May 2007
The Salvation Army’s massive Red Shield Appeal is now underway and the message this year from the Salvos is that ‘We’re all in this together.’
The Salvos are aiming to raise $64 million through the appeal to fund critical services to help Australians in need. On the weekend of the big doorknock, 19 and 20 May, when the Salvos aim to raise $8 million, thousands and thousands of volunteers across the nation will mobilise. Collectors will easily be identified by special ID tags and the white collectors bags they are carrying.
Many famous names are supporting this year’s appeal, including General Peter Cosgrove, Andrew Gaze, David Boon, Mark Mitchell, Jessicah Schipper, Tammy van Wisse, Di Morrissey and many others. They are all urging people to dig deep.
General Peter Cosgrove said “The Salvation Army’s services are utterly remarkable. This is an organisation that rolls its sleeves up and gets on with the job. You can only admire that. The Salvos provide everything from programs to assist recovering alcoholics, children’s and adolescent services, centres to help women in crisis and grief counselling programs. It’s an organisation that makes such a huge difference to people’s lives. The new theme, ‘We’re all in this together’ is such an important message. We owe it to people less fortunate than ourselves to give a hand. Maybe one day you may need the Salvos’ help.”
