Huggies History![]() How have disposable nappies changed in the last 50 years?Next time you’re chatting to your mum ask her about the disposable nappies that were available on the market when you were a baby. You can bet they were no where near as good as they are today. She’ll probably also remind you how lucky you are one more time! In the early days of “one use” disposable nappies, although a huge relief from the drudgery of constantly washing cloth ones, they were very bulky and cumbersome, leakage was common and the fasteners were not particularly effective. A number of nappy brands entered into the Australian market during the 70’s, but it wasn’t until 1988 that Huggies was introduced to Australian parents. Since then Huggies nappies have become the number one choice for Australian babies. In fact more mums choose Huggies compared to any other nappy. If you are interested in looking at the history and evolution of disposable nappies then have a look at the EDANA website. EDANA, is the international association which represents the nonwovens and absorbent hygiene products industries. They have detailed the history of the nappy from its humble origins to where it is today (© EDANA). It’s really interesting! Huggies nappies have led the way in product development since they were first introduced. Here at Huggies we continually strive to improve and to meet the needs of your babies and your expectations. As the leader in the Australian market we’ve introduced a number of improvements and innovations over the years. Some of the key milestones for Huggies Nappies have been:
Some other nappy brands have adopted some of these ‘firsts’ into their own designs. In fact many Huggies innovations have gone on to become industry standard features. Huggies are still the only nappies that:
When were Huggies products first launched in Australia?Huggies nappies landed on Australian supermarket shelves (and Australian baby’s bottoms) in 1988 and were very quickly accepted by parents. Huggies Baby wipes were introduced in 1996 to help Australian parents at nappy change time. They are the thickest wipes on the market while providing a soft and gentle clean every time. They have been known to clean up everything from little faces and bottoms to spills and messy creative activity. Huggies recognises that every child is different so in 2005 we introduced an Extra Sensitive wipe that is perfect for use on newborns or babies with sensitive skin. Then in 2006 the very handy Pop-Up tubs became available making nappy changes just that little bit easier. In 1993 Huggies introduced Pull-Ups toilet training pants to help make the toilet training process easier and less stressful for both mum and child. With this launch Huggies became able to look after little ones from birth right through to successful toilet training and beyond if required. In the summer of 1999 Huggies Little Swimmers were launched to meet the growing needs of babies who spent lots of time in the water. Mums quickly embraced these as it meant freedom and fun in the water for their babies without the worry of nasty accidents. In early 2006 Huggies joined bath time with the launch of a new range of Baby washes and lotions to help look after your baby’s precious skin. The range is specially formulated to suit different skin types so that you can choose the one that is best for your baby. Choose from Extra Sensitive, Normal or Dry skin variants. In recent times we’ve launched other products designed with you and your baby in mind. Where are Huggies products made? All Huggies nappies are made right here in Australia. They are manufactured in Sydney NSW. Kimberly-Clark employs over 1,800 people in Australia and New Zealand. |
