Your ObligationsHere is a summary of your obligations to your employer.
- You must give written notice to your employer of your intention to take parental leave. This must be provided at least 10 weeks before you anticipate starting your parental leave.
- At least 4 weeks before you start your parental leave you must supply your employer with a written notice of your expected date of return to work.
- Before you commence your parental leave you must supply a medical certificate confirming your pregnancy and your Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD). In the event of adoption you will need to supply a letter detailing the expected date you will be united with your child.
- If your partner is seeking to take extended parental leave as the main care giver to your child, he will need to provide a statutory declaration stating this.
- If you change your mind regarding the length of time your wish to take for your parental leave you can do this once by providing notice in writing with at least 14 days notice. If you would like to change these dates again it is at the discretion of your employer.
