14 May 2007BEDWETTING IS SO COMMON -
THIS WINTER, ONE IN TEN CHILDREN ARE LIKELY TO WAKE UP FEELING WET,
COLD AND A LITTLE EMBARASSED
Bedwetting is one of the most common childhood complaints. On average, one in ten children will experience it - Dolly Parton, actor Michael Landon and President Franklin D. Roosevelt were all bedwetters as children.
Fortunately, 97% of bed wetters will be dry by the time they are twelve and will not require formal treatment. But how can parents and children best manage the broken sleep, cold wet sheets and protect their child’s self esteem from public humiliation while they are waiting to grow out of it?
Dr Janet Hall, a psychologist with 25yrs experience dealing with children’s issues, including bed-wetting, and author of Boss of the Bladder, says, “Parents need to first educate themselves and their child on the cause of bedwetting so they understand it is something children generally don’t have control of.
“Once parents understand that it is something that in most cases simply requires time and patience, they can look towards developing strategies for managing the problem.
Janet adds, “Above all, it’s important for parents to help preserve their child’s self esteem and avoid it becoming a source of anxiety or embarrassment. By wearing an absorbent pyjama pant like DryNites® Pyjama Pants, both parents and children will have far more control over the affects of bedwetting, ensuring the child will wake up dry and feeling good.”
The new discreet underwear-like designs for boys and girls make DryNites® Pyjama Pants appear like regular underpants that easily disappear under pyjamas or nighties. They are ideal for sleepovers, slumber parties and school camps etc, allowing children to relax and just enjoy these occasions, without the risk of embarrassment.
Parents and children can visit the DryNites® website at drynites.com.au for all the latest information and advice and to get a free sample of the new-look DryNites® Pyjama Pants.
