DESPITE THE MANY CHALLENGES OF MODERN PARENTING -

TOILET TRAINING HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER!

Busy parents who are already juggling work and family life could be forgiven for going white at the thought of commencing toilet training with their toddler. More often than not there’s conflicting advice between grandparents and friends on when to begin, how to get through the process as quickly as possible and deal with all those “little accidents” when you’re out and about.

Dr Janet Hall, author of Easy Toilet Training and founder of the Boss of the Bladder Program says, “There are two fundamental things parents need to understand in order to make toilet training much easier for everyone concerned. These include not starting their child until they are ready and understanding that your child needs to feel wet in order to learn.

“Parents need to wait until they see at least three signs of readiness. These may include the child asking to use the toilet or potty; the child is uncomfortable in wet nappies and wants to be changed; the child’s soiled nappies are regular and predictable (see information sheet attached for more).

“When the time is right, it is important for parents to understand that children actually need to feel wet in order to toilet train successfully. In the past this is what has made toilet training difficult for parents who want to avoid the headache and stress of dealing with little accidents particularly when they’re away from home.

“The new improved Huggies Pull-Ups® training pants with the wetness liner is ideal for these situations as it allows the toddlers to feel momentarily wet so they can register the sensation before the wetness is drawn away to leave the child dry. This makes Pull-Ups® a particularly effective toilet training aid as parents will no longer need to interrupt or prolong the toilet training process by putting their child back into a nappy equivalent to get them through an outing or special event - the new Pull-Ups® will actually help continue to train your toddler wherever you  are, she said.

Pull-Ups® Training Pant designs also now look even more like “big kid” underwear, with a range of fun new graphics that make them even more appealing to toddlers. For the little girls, Disney Princesses can be found on the front and for little boys, Buzz and Woody are everyone’s favourites.

As always, Huggies Pull-Ups® training pants feature special designs that fade when wet to help toddlers to want to stay dry and the easy open sides makes changing easier after little accidents.

New Huggies Pull-Ups® training pants featuring the wetness liner are now available in stores and priced RRP $13.99.

MEDIA FACT SHEET – TOILET TRAINING

It is impossible to set an exact age to start toilet training. Some children are ready at 18 months, some not until 2+ years or later.

Parents should begin to look for the signs of readiness in their child when:

  • their child is over the excitement of learning to walk and will be able to sit still for a while.
  • “No” isn’t the answer to every question. They’re actually willing to co-operate now and then.

Signs of Readiness
If three or more of the signs listed below are clearly present, it’s probably time to start toilet training.

  • Your child can stay dry for two hours at a time during the day or is dry after a nap.
  • Your child’s soiled nappies regular and predictable.
  • Your child can indicate by words, facial expressions or posture that he or she is about to wee or poo.
  • Your child can follow simple verbal directions.
  • Your child is uncomfortable with wet or soiled nappies and wants them changed.
  • Your child can be taught to pull pants on and off.
  • Your child asks to use the toilet or the potty.
  • Your child asks to wear Big Kid toilet training pants or underwear.
