A NEW POLL REVEALS MUMS WANT TO SEE MORE STAY-AT-HOME DADS IN THEIR NEIGHBOURBOOD.Media Release 31st August 2007
It appears we are now not only comfortable with the idea of fathers staying-at-home to look after their children, but we are embracing it. A recent poll on the Huggies® website revealed that 63% of voters, mainly mums, wanted to see more stay-at-home dads in their area.
Only a relatively short time ago, stay-at-home dads were a rare breed and the social stigma attached to the idea would have scared many Aussie dads away. But now there is increasing evidence to show this is no longer the case.
A second poll on the Huggies® site showed 48% of young families had considered the idea of the father becoming a stay-at-home dad.
Lia Liaros, Website Manager for Huggies.com.au says, “It is good to see parents now feel free to make decisions that will best suit their family’s needs.
“Having more fathers take on the role of primary care giver must also be positive for the community. I believe stay-at-home dads make a very valuable contribution to playgroup and mother’s group activities offering new ideas and perspective.
Lia added, “We are more likely to find stay-at-home dads in families where the mother has equal to, or more earning capacity than the father. The decision not to become a stay-at-home dad appears to be mainly influenced by job/money issues with 66% of our respondents identifying this as the main reason why their partner is not a stay-at-home dad”. ------------------------------------------ends-------------------------------------------
