Every year, McCrindle Research releases their report revealing the top 100 names for that year. It helps to see what parents are choosing to name their children at that time and these reports help to see how that changes over time.
The babies of this current generation are referred to as Generation Alpha, babies born from 2010 onwards. The previous generation was named Generation Z, however Mark McCrindle felt that this generation was the start of something brand new, so this was the reasoning for drawing on the scientific nomenclature of turning to the Greek alphabet, naming them Generation Alpha.
There is some interesting information about this generation that McCrindle have uncovered. They will be the largest generation in the history of the world once they have all been born.
According to McCrindle Research, “While they are the youngest generation, they have brand influence and purchasing power beyond their years. Gen Alpha are the most materially endowed generation ever, the most technologically savvy generation ever and they will enjoy a longer life span than any previous generation.
“They will stay in education longer, start their earning years later and so stay at home with their parents later than even their predecessors, Gen Z and Gen Y.”
McCrindle analyses the trends that are occurring in baby naming. Below is the list of the top 100 baby names for girls and boys for 2022, from where these trends are gathered.
